Golden Bay Preschool Newsletter | January 2021

THIS MONTH’S THEME IS “WINTER”

Last month’s theme, holiday season, got all the children into the holiday spirit. We sang holiday songs, read holiday books, and decorated gingerbread houses and yummy sugar cookies with colourful frosting. Focusing on the alphabet and phonetics, we played related games and participated in writing activities. We learned more than 5 new Chinese poems and even memorized them as everyone enjoyed Chinese learning time.

Our learning through play will continue to progress throughout our daily activities. The children will continue to build on new skills daily; please continue encouraging them to practice these skills at home. At school, we instill strong reading habits to the children by reading stories multiple times a day. At home, they should demonstrate this habit with parents before bedtime. This is a habit we encourage all children to build on in and outside of the classroom to be fluent and successful readers.

January is a great time to think and explore winter. This month, we will explore the winter season by learning about hibernating animals (ie. Bears), the weather (ie. Snow), and holidays that fall during this time (ie. MLK) by performing various activities, reading books, and singing songs; some of which include reading and singing Goldilocks and the Three Bears, making DIY instant snow, and discuss about kindness, peace, and dreams through a “My dream” activity.
